My Top 10 Sandwiches of All Time

I love food (I mean, who doesn't?), and it's been a while since I did a blog post non-Survivor or sports related, so I thought I'd rank and list my Top 10 Sandwiches.  I love sandwiches so much; they're incredibly versatile and an easy way to take care of your hunger.  This list will not include burgers which are a different food in my opinion.  And yes, these will be in order, with the best at the end.

10. Grilled Cheese
The classic.  Every kid loves it.  Most adults do, too.  With the right cheese and bread, and grilled just right, it can really hit the spot.  The best way to eat, of course, is with a soup, preferably a good tomato or tomato bisque.  Also good when meal when all you have is bread, cheese, and butter.

9. BLT
I just had this last night, which partly inspired me to write this blog.  I remember when I got a bit older my mom started making us BLT's for dinner.  She killed it every time.  Just have it with a side of your favorite chips and you have a solid meal.  Also, I personally have added either avocado, onion, or both, to make a potential BLOAT sandwich, which is also good.

8. Banh Mi
I recently discovered this, and I'm a big fan already.  It just has a combination of flavors that work so well together.  Now I must say, I'm not the biggest fan of cucumber, so I either request it without or take it off.  Still, solid dish.

7. Meatball Sub
I know Joey Tribbiani would want this higher, but I actually haven't had too many meatball subs in my life.  I always end up getting something else from a sandwich place.  And it's not because I don't like meatball subs (I mean, they're on this list), but because you basically know what you're getting each time.  In other words, you cannot go wrong with a meatball sub.

6. Philly Cheesesteak
So savory and so good.  Load it with peppers, cheese, and onions, and you've got a near-perfect sandwich.  My bucket list item is to have an authentic Philly Cheesesteak IN Philadelphia, and/or a Chicago Beef Sandwich in Chicago, which is similar, but not the same.

5. Egg Sandwich
We start the Top 5 with perhaps a peculiar pick, but I love them so much.  I think I got inspired by Denny's "Moons Over My Hammy", which is essentially an egg sandwich.  Throw on your cheese of choice, and ideally a good slice or two of ham/turkey, and you've got a great sandwich that works for literally any meal of the day.  Also need a bit of mayonnaise, which goes a long way.  And the bread absolutely has to be toasted.

4. Italian Chicken Sandwich
Now I'm kind of cheating on this one a bit, because for all of these, I am picturing sliced bread from a loaf, but for this one, it's best with hamburger buns.  But it's not a burger.  Anyway, you get a fried chicken patty (which can be bought in the frozen section at the grocery store), some kind of marinara sauce, and some white cheese, and that's it.  That's all you need.  Onion isn't a bad addition.  Can't go wrong with this one.

3. Meatloaf Sandwich
My top 3 starts with one you might not expect.  I first had a meatloaf Sandwich from the Safeway deli.  Thought I'd give it a shot.  Loved it.  Kept buying them until they no longer made or offered them.  Darn.  So now, the only time I have them is when I make them at home with leftover meatloaf.  In fact, the main reason I make meatloaf for dinner is so I can make meatloaf sandwiches with the leftovers.  Anyway, you take toasted bread, some mayo, mustard (opposite sides), a slice of cold meatloaf (don't reheat), and some cheddar cheese.  That's it.  You can add tomato or lettuce, but I prefer without.  I love these sandwiches.  Something about the breadcrumbs in the meatloaf and the bread giving me a ton of carbs.

2. PB&J Triple Decker
Not just a PB&J, but a triple-decker.  This is a PB&J sandwich with three slices of bread.  I started making this when I wanted a PB&J, but there were 3 slices of bread left.  So instead of leaving just one slice, I added it to my sandwich.  The bottom slice gets peanut butter.  The middle slice gets jam on both sides.  The top slice gets peanut butter as well.  Combine.  It feels like a thousand calories each time, but it's so worth it.

1. A meaty sub sandwich
I love just a classic sandwich of lunchmeat, cheese, mustard, and mayo, with optional tomato and lettuce.  But I thought I'd take it one step further.  I remember I used to get the giant subs at Safeway in their deli, which were made with the baker's French bread loaves.  On some days, they'd even be just $5!  Insane deal.  They would pile on tons of meat, cheese, some lettuce, and layers of mayo and mustard.  You just cannot go wrong with a sub sandwich that has a crap ton of meat.  Makes you feel like a real carnivore.  And that's why it's #1.
